Social Informatics is an emerging area of informatics that studies how information systems can realize social goals, apply social concepts, and become sources of information relevant for social sciences and for analysis of social phenomena.

The first international Social Informatics conference will attempt to create an interdisciplinary community of researchers interested in the interactions between the information system and society. Information scientists working on ways to analyze and improve information systems from the point of view of realizing social goals are invited to participate.

La socioinformatica, a mio parere, può essere anche un'area emergente della sociologia che studia come si possono plasmare i sistemi informativi affinchè quest'ultimi possano contribuire al miglioramento della società, e possano offrire nuove basi operative per le scienze che utilizzano l'informatica in modo sociale.

The social informatics, in my opinion, can also be a nascent sociology that studies how to shape the information systems so that they can contribute to the betterment of society, and can provide new operational bases in science using information technology so social.
